Some uplifting news from the Heartland: Iowa wind energy could help nearby states reach their carbon emissions goals according to a new report.

As states make plans to meet emissions benchmarks outlined in the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan, research out of Iowa suggests its wind energy could not only reach its own objectives, but also reduce greenhouse gases for neighboring states. Data shows Iowa would be able to easily cut an additional 15 million metric tons of carbon yearly from the region. Other estimates go as high as 36 million.

Transmission of cheap Iowa wind energy by way of the proposed Rock Island Clean Line would assist states like Illinois and Indiana as well as stretch the renewable resource as far as Virginia and Maryland.
