Illinois' electrical grid is about to get a whole lot smarter. This week the Illinois Senate approved a measure that will help fund the development of the smart grid throughout the state.

It's important for energy retailers to take note of these developments. The smart grid will change the way demand response programs work, in addition to altering consumer usage patterns. Risk management and demand forecasts must account for the ever-evolving technology that changes the way customers use energy to power their homes and businesses.
