'Burdensome' Clean Power Plan impacts grid reliability, says NJ Governor [Video]

The list of Clean Power Plan opponents continues to grow. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has thrown his hat in the ring, opposing the Obama administration's energy initiative based on its inability to consider the past.

In a press release, Governor Christie condemned the policy's inability to take into account previous accomplishments within each state it affects. The presidential hopeful noted New Jersey had already reached EPA carbon benchmarks for 2020 back in 2012, and state ratepayers already invested $3 billion toward solar energy projects. Additional regulation could lead to lowered grid reliability and even brownouts.

Even though Christie has spoken out about the federal government's Clean Power Plan, New Jersey has one of the strongest solar energy commitments in the country. In August, the state raised its solar net metering maximums by 0.4 percent, which could double solar capacity statewide.
