Enhanced energy security measures tucked into recent transportation bill [Video]

The energy grid will see future security enhancements thanks to a recent transportation bill signed into effect by President Obama. The bill grants the executive branch the power to declare emergencies should America's grid be compromised.

Apart from adding more than $300 billion to U.S. highways over the next five years, this bill gives the energy secretary six months to develop a plan of execution should an energy emergency arise.

One failsafe measure included already allows the federal government to set up a mechanism for returning substantial losses to energy providers adversely affected by such an event. Ratepayers can rest easy knowing if their reliability suffers from any large-scale disaster, companies will have the support necessary to maintain fair and reasonable prices.
